Each conservator defines their reports a bit differently, though content should be fairly standard.  An MPFC Conservation Documentation Package is geared for public or private historical collections who are interested, willing, and able to keep documentation on pieces of value.  It typically includes all or some of the following, depending upon budgetary considerations and client or project needs:

bullet

Conservation Survey, which generates a Survey Recommendation (usually only done for a large collection);

bullet

Conservation Assessment, which generates both a Conditions Report, a Proposed Treatment Report,
and often, an Estimate for the treatment proposal;

bullet

Conservation or Treatment Report

Conservation Documentation can be very detailed or vary general.  Samples of Conservation Documentation Packages which range from complete detailed packages to simpler packages follow:

bullet

  IMPERIAL MONTEREY SOFA (PDF coming soon):  Institutional documentation, only occasionally done for private clientele.

bullet

   2007 UNIVERSITY LAWSON LOVESEAT (PDF): Complete documentation suitable for institutions and/or private clientele.

bullet

  2007 SEIGNOURET CHAIR (PDF): A medium-level treatment report.

bullet

  BUCKS COUNTY TILT-TOP TABLE  (PDF): The most basic treatment report.

We also create various educational documents, most often used for websites, for viewing in an exhibit, or for funding:

Conservation Survey

A Conservation Survey is  intended to work toward an overall long-term plan for a facility or private owner, whether to assist with long-range budgetary plans, a fund-raising effort, or toward a logistical effort to further the intention of maximum preservation within the parameters of the owner's or facility's requirements.  A conservation survey is a broad scope assessment of an entire collection or a large number of items.    Click here to read more about Conservation Surveys.

Conservation Assessment

Most often a client asks us to do a Conservation Assessment on a single piece or a few pieces without having us look at their entire collection.  Click Here to read further about Conservation Assessments, including Conditions Report , Proposed Treatment Report, and Estimates.

Conservation Report, or Treatment Report

The Conservation or Treatment Report is generated while the item is being treated.  It is a compilation of procedural notes and photographs, turned into a report on the treatment process.  Click here for more information on the Conservation Report, including Photographic Documentation and Plotting.
