Conservation Treatment:
What We Do + What To Expect
Treatment: What We Do
Conservation of objects involves a wide range of specialties and a knowledge of many materials.
Conservation, whether simple wooden objects or complex upholstered pieces, often involves a half-dozen or more specialty conservators, such as blacksmiths, clock mechanisms, tapestry conservators or gilding experts. The process may involve both preservation and/or restorative techniques.
At present we have the expertise to accomplish:
-
All types of upholstery conservation, including modern pieces; - Tapestry + fabric conservation;
- Numerous needlework, quilting, and appliqué repair and restorative services;
- Passementerie conservation;
- Historic wood finish reparation, including true shellac finishes, gilding, japanning, and specialty paint repairs and conservation for both furnishings and architectural treatments;
- Traditional woodworking, marquetry and parquetry;
- Blacksmithing, including accurate reproduction;
-
Wall treatments, including upholstered walls in fabrics and leather, and draperies; - Leather preservation and reparation;
- Specialty reproduction work when necessary, including passementerie and needlework reproduction.
In addition, we provide various other Period Design related services.
